Starting Over

It is my belief that anyone who wants to do web design should have an awesome, flawless, feature-rich site of their own. I have laughed at and put down many a web company whose own company website just reeked of inexperience, incapability, laziness, or all of the above. How can they expect to attract customers, quality designers, anybody with a web presence like that?

Well I am ashamed to admit that I have now found myself in that spot. Web design and programming are things I love. It would be a dream job for me to be able to do it for a living. This site, my web presence, however, doesn’t reflect that very well. This site is, quickly frankly, awful. How can I expect to attract clients, employers, or collaborators with this site? I don’t think I can.

Until this point, word of mouth has brought me most of my business, and for that I’m very thankful. I pride myself in putting my best into my work, and that best has come a long way since I started making websites back in the day. My portfolio is still fairly limited, though, and so it’s about time to freshen up my own web presence in order to practice what I preach.

The game has now been set, now let the planning begin…

Blog Move Notice

So as part of a long term solution for my web sites, I have decided to move my blog to www.micahlee.net. This move is prompted by my plan to expand my web presence to include more business aspects, as a contract programmer and web developer/designer. With this in mind, I would rather use my commercial (.com) domain name for business and my more generic .net domain name for my personal site. Originally, I wasn’t going to make the move so soon, but rather get the business site developed first and then move. After some more thought, however, I realized that, while I don’t have all that many readers now, I need to plan for having more readers later, and If I waited to move the site, I could potentially disrupt more people trying to locate my blog than if I went ahead and moved now. Now, I realize that the six of you who read this blog are probably laughing that I put this much thought into moving, but this post is, in fact, for you six people. So be ready to point your browsers to micahlee.net on or around July 14 and you can keep reading about me as usual. Unless, of course, you want to hire me to do your programming, design, or web work. Then you should go to micahlee.com. I know I would hire me.

Hollywood or Bust!

In my endless amount of free time(yeah right), my brother, cousins, and myself have decided to try our hand at movie making. Now, as four guys growing up together, we’ve had this idea a few times before, with varying degrees of failure, so we know what to expect. It probably won’t end up going anywhere. But all the same it should be a pretty fun endeavor. The neat thing about this iteration of movie making is that my  older cousin and myself have actually learned a thing or two about how the post-production side of the movie business works over the past couple of years. So this could turn out to be a nice chance for us to play with some of the technology we’ve learned about and actually gain some experience using it(You never know when Steven Spielberg might call you up!). Inevitably , our creativity will outrun our budget and our blockbuster will die there. But until then, I’m sure we’ll have some fun making parodies of Indiana Jones… yikes! did I say that out loud?!

Stay tuned…
